Satellite Strangers (2017)
Project Statement
Satellite Strangers is an animated film following a microscopic being deep into a dark forest where it encounters other luminescent dots. They begin to vibrate and resonate with each other, building up to a ritualistic chant and synchronized dance. A fusion of the swarm occurs from the chaos.
The work was started through the exploration of frame by frame animation through rubber stamped ink on paper. The elements were digitized and further animated in After Effects, a motion design software. A cacophonous soundscape was created using a hand-built light-activated breadboard sound generator and pulsing light. Photographs of family plants make up the flora.
