Project Statement

Flan is a wordless illustrated sequential narrative, inspired by the act of sharing a slice of dessert, and the shame of finishing the last piece. The comic follows the dissection of leche flan down to the atomic level. It is also broken down in the other direction, into its preparation and ingredients, with a recipe for Filipino leche flan at the start of the book.

Geometric vector shapes, alluding to the perfection and smoothness of flan, break down from dimensional forms to infinitesimal vertices. The zine is printed through a Risograph in gold ink and hand-bound.
