Project Statement
Q is an animated film that follows two figures in a desolate landscape who witness an object falling onto the horizon. The object is a golden fruit that germinates into a small, bashful plant, with the power to summon a greater spirit that induces a transformation.
This film was created through frame-by-frame animations with graphite and spray paint on paper, and videos and photography of physical objects and space. The development of the story evolved through the repetitive tracing of frames, allowing new associations to emerge from this ritualistic process. Established myths, such as the Garden of Eden, were used as a skeleton for new images and meanings. The montage of drawn and live actions synthesizes a new realm made up of imagined and observed realities. The ambient soundscape is a mixture of stretched out recordings of birds and industrial sounds.
The work is a reflection on spirituality, a combination of both imposed religious and suppressed internal convictions. The result is an animistic and dreamlike story summoned from personal experience and memory.
